Reflexology
Reflexology is a pressure therapy that has been used around the world for thousands of years to help the body restore its natural balance. It helps to eliminate toxins and has been proven as a very safe and effective way to help the body heal itself. Reflexology is safe for almost anybody of any age as it can help treat every day problems with a holistic approach.
The feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis, the body's equilibrium. Each part of the foot represents a part of the human body and by applying pressure to a particular area we can encourage a balance within the body. The aim of Reflexology is to help relieve pain, improve bodily functions and assist the body to eliminate its waste more effectively.
Reflexology is particularly good for helping the liver area, which becomes congested with chemicals and toxins in our daily lives.
Other benefits of reflexology include:
- Relaxation
- Pain reduction
- Amelioration of symptoms for health concerns
- Rejuvenation of tired feet
- Improvement in blood flow
- Impact on physiological measures (e. g. blood pressure and cholesterol; measurements by ECG, EEG, and fMRI)
- Beneficial for post-operative recovery and pain reduction
- Enhancement of medical care (e. g. cancer, phantom limb pain, and hemodialysis patients)
- Adjunct to mental health care (e. g. depression, anxiety, Post traumatic stress disorder)
- Complement to cancer care (pain, nausea, vomiting, anxiety)
- Easier birthing / delivery / post-partum recovery
Reflexology does not diagnose diseases within the body, instead it can reveal areas of greater sensitivity to indicate there is congestion, inflammation and tension in that particular part of the body. By treating this congestion, inflammation and tension it helps to relieve symptoms and achieve a greater improvement of body functions.
The Treatment
It has been found that most people respond well to a course of six treatments carried out on a once a week basis. Following a course of treatment, a maintenance treatment is recommended every 4-6 weeks.
The first treatment will involve a full consultation and lifestyle analysis to determine the best treatment plan. An individual treatment plan is written up and followed throughout the course or until an improvement is seen.
Follow-up treatments may be altered slightly depending on how the individual feels at the time and for this a new treatment plan would be discussed.
Please allow 1½ hours for your first treatment to allow time for a full consultation. Treatments thereafter will take approximately 1 hour.
