Acne Vulgaris

Acne is a condition characterized by obstructed sebaceous glands, pimples, and sometimes deeper cysts and nodules that can occur on the face, back, shoulders and upper arms. Acne is often associated with adolescence and will usually affect most teenagers at some time. However more adults are now suffering with this condition.

Until recently client with persistent acne have often been treated using topical applications or antibiotics. However recent studies have now proved that by using blue light it will trigger chemicals within the body that destroy the P.acne bug In a fraction of the time that it takes current methods to work.

The blue light is indicated for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris. This wavelength targets porphyrins (photo sensitizers), which are normally produced by the p.acne bug, a bacteria that colonises inside the sebaceous gland and clogs it. A photo-chemical reaction induced by porphyrins when triggered by the wavelength of blue light encourages a process called photo excitation which results in the destruction of the bacteria without any effect on surrounding tissue.

Eight brief treatments over a four week period are all that is required to see significant improvement in the skin. This is three times faster than common antibiotics. The treatments are safe and involve no side effects or patient discomfort.

The Harmony is used only in the effected area making the treatments very fast, compared to other blue light treatments that are spread over the face and last between 10-20 minutes per session. The Harmony uses higher concentrations of similar wavelengths which are delivered just to the effected area making the treatment highly successful.
